Falmouth Oyster Festival

The Falmouth Oyster Festival, Thursday the 13th to Sunday 16th October, celebrates the start of the oyster season which runs from October to March.

There is a full programme of events with an oyster shucking competition, cookery demos, music and the Falmouth Oyster Working Boat Race on the Sunday morning, as well as ample opportunity to try the famous Native Oyster from the oyster and seafood bars in the vast marquee in events square.

National award winning Skinner's Brewery will hopefully again be brewing Pennycomequick Cornish Stout especially for the festival -the perfect local tipple to wash down all the Oysters!

The Falmouth Working Boat Race during the Oyster Festival
Due to a bye-law passed in 1876, banning the use of engines to protect the oyster beds, the native oysters of the river Fal are still fished using sail power by gaff cutter working boats up to 30ft, the famous Falmouth Working Boats.

Out of season the Working Boats are raced, the Oyster Working Boat Race during the Falmouth Oyster Festival is one of the last of the season.
